STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Short Mystery Fiction Society seeks to actively recognize writers and readers who promote and support the creative artform of short mysteries in the press, in other mystery organizations, and through awards.

Here on this website you’ll find information on Joining our Society, participating in our Discussion List, reading and subscribing to our quarterly (well sort of quarterly) web and email Netletter, our Awards for story excellence, and some background on the Organization itself.

Our annual Derringer awards are a very popular way for the members to recognize the short mystery fiction that has meant the most to them. We also had a Poe Tribute Short Story Contest Award in 1999 for the 150th anniversary of the death of Edgar Allen Poe.

The organization was first formed in 1996 and a Board of Advisors and Officers were nominated and elected. The next set of Officers were elected in 1998.

Feel free to get involved and join our internet society in celebration of short mystery fiction.

Thanks for visiting!
